All Natural Way to Remove and Kill Head Lice
How to Get Rid of Head Lice the Natural Way
Head lice. Just hearing that term makes me shudder. These little buggers will get into your hair, lay their offspring and keep reproducing happily until you put a stop to it. But who is a risk and how do you get rid of them?
Head lice are tiny bugs that live in the hair of humans. It is common for children to get them at school. You can catch these lice by being in close contact with someone who is infected. That is why it can be so prevalent in grade school because children play close together, share hats, combs and other items that can spread the things.
So what do you do if you find that your child has these critters? First of all, don’t panic. They may be yucky to look at and they are a nuisance but they do not carry diseases. The only problem is, they can be very hard to get rid of in some cases. So read on to uncover what you can do to get rid of them in your home and on your children.
First of all, you need to realize that you are not just treating the person carrying the lice, you must treat the whole house. They can live in bedding, carpets and other places and can re-infest you or your children. The following tips will help you treat your home:
- Machine wash all the clothing and bed linens that the infected person touched in hot water. Dry the clothes on the hot cycle for at least 20 minutes.
- If clothing or bed linens are not washable, get them dry cleaned right away.
- Put all stuffed animals and other fabric items that can’t be washed in a plastic bag and seal it for two weeks.
- Soak all brushes and combs in rubbing alcohol, Lysol or wash in hot soapy water.
- Vacuum the floor and all the furniture thoroughly. You may want to clean the carpets and furniture with a steam cleaner.
If you don’t want to use chemicals on your child’s head to get rid of the bugs, there are a few things you could do at home. Some people say applying mayo to the head and leaving it in overnight with a shower cap on will kill the live bugs.
Other people swear by tea tree oil. Some people say herbal shampoos will help. I personally cannot recommend any of these treatments because I have no experience with them. But I do know that the most effective way of getting rid of this nuisance is to comb.
Get a metal, fine toothed, nit comb and comb through your child’s hair everyday.
Soaking the hair in vinegar will help loosen the nits from the hair shaft, making them easier to remove.
Find an all natural treatment that works for your family and stick to it.
