Nits Head Lice Treatment
Nits – How To Treat Head Lice
Anybody who has ever experienced the excruciating torture of having head lice knows that nits are a huge problem. Head lice are a common problem for young children. The infestation is extremely contagious and spreads quickly through schools. It is a much bigger problem on girls than boys because girls often have long hair that the lice can hide in.
The first sign of head lice that you will notice is an itchy scalp. If you see your child scratch, check his or her scalp for lice. Lice are small insects that are difficult to see crawl about on the scalp. Instead, look for lice eggs, which are usually laid on the hair surrounding the scalp. Lice eggs are the color of honey and resemble dandruff, but must be picked out of the hair; you cannot remove them simply by brushing.
If there has been a lice outbreak at school or daycare, you should examine your child’s head very carefully. First have your child sit close to you in a strong light, then with a fine- tooth comb section the child’s hair and look at the part. The nits will look like a small grain of rice that clings to the Child’s hair close to the root. If your child has been scratching, and you see redness you may want to take them to a doctor for antibiotics to keep infection down.
Wondering how to get rid of head lice is common. Treatments are widely available, and successful elimination of the bugs often requires multiple products. Get rid of free floating lice by putting bedding and other plush items in garbage bags for a few weeks, killing the eggs and lice. Wash everything worn by other people in very hot water for the same effect. This process of quarantining and elimination should rid your home of any lice, which will prevent reinfestation after getting the lice on the head taken care of.
There are over the counter shampoos. These are a good start to getting rid of the head lice. Sometimes the lice build up a resistance to the chemicals in the over the counter shampoos. In this case, you may need a prescription shampoo from the doctor. It is recommended that this be repeated about a week after the initial washing to make sure all the lice have been killed.
Carefully pass through all the (preferably wet) hair with a fine comb, removing all eggs and lice.

I love your post here, and its true that you REALLY have to attack those nits just as hard as the living lice.
Our family killed the live and crawling lice, but didn’t realize you had to get the eggs out too, or they end up hatching, and POOF!!! You are right back where you started from.
Thanks for mentioning how important that is, and we try to keep our daughter from borrowing clothes and hats from her friends anymore.
